Parent Meeting Minutes 11/29/2023

OWNCS2 PTO General Meeting Minutes – November

Date, Time, and Location: Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 6:30PM Via Zoom

Meeting called to order by: President- Kathy Vergara at 6:40PM

Note Taker(s): Secretary- Esther Wallace

Timekeeper: Secretary- Esther Wallace

Attendees: President- Kathy Vergara, Co-communications Officers- Dakina Darrien-Battle,

Secretary- Esther Wallace, Administration: Ms. Valencia. There were 30 attendees; a quorum

was reached.


ORDERS OF BUSINESS

I. Events/Updates

a. November Events Recap

 Fall Festival

o Thank you to all parents who donated candy and toys

o PTO created goodie bags for every student

o Every class took photos against a fall themed back drop

o Pictures will be printed out for teachers to hang in their classrooms

and a slideshow will be posted on Bloomz for parents to view


 Gobble Grams

o Students were very excited to receive and give their gobble grams

o PTO delivered all gobble grams last week and was also able to

sponsor class sets for certain classes to ensure that all kids received

a treat

 Turkey Giveaway

o Thank you to our parents, Bree and Kimberly, who donated turkeys to

be given away

o PTO hosted a free raffle and 2 families won the turkeys

 OWN2 Friendsgiving

o OWN2 put together a Friendsgiving celebration which went very well

o PTO sponsored a balloon arch and backdrop for pictures as well

o Students loved dressing up as twins and were able to take pictures

together

o Thank you to all parents who were able to volunteer for this event


b. December Upcoming Event

 Paint and Chat Mixer

o PTO will host it’s first Parent Mixer on Wednesday Dec 20 th

o The event will be a Paint and Chat with a guided art project

o The event will be held in the multipurpose room during the hours of

3:45p-5:30p


o Light snacks and refreshments will be served and included in the

ticket price

o Children of participating parents will enter for free and be given an

activity or can complete homework in a separate classroom

o Tickets will be $25/parent and that includes snacks and all painting

supplies

o Please join us for an opportunity to meet the other parents, your

classroom parent as well as the PTO


 Toy Drive

o PTO will be hosting a toy drive so that students can have games to

play on days when there is indoor recess

o Board games, crafts and group games for various ages are welcomed

o Please avoid individual games, playdoh and water beads

o A big box will likely be placed in the lobby so parents can drop games

off

o Admissions office already donated some games but multiple games

are always welcomed as they will be distributed to all classes

o PTO will inquire from McAfee which games have already been

donated as some parents have requested to know


c. Classroom Parents

 As of now all classes have an assigned classroom parent, some have two

parents

 Class parents will be acting as the liaison between the class teacher, the

parents and the PTO in an attempt to help keep communication flowing

smoothly

 Class parents have contacted teachers to help PTO create an Amazon wish

list for each class

 Teachers have a deadline of Dec 15 th to submit their items and the Amazon

list will then be posted for all families to see

 Parents can purchase items for their class and those items will be mailed

directly to the teacher’s classrooms

 PTO will also purchase certain items on the list for the classes as well

 A separate wish list will be made for the Specials teachers (art, music,

science, Spanish, STEAM)


d. PTO Financial Update

 Thank you to all who have donated to the PTO, participated in events and

volunteered

 The Gobble Grams event this month made $983 before expenses. The event

profit amount will be calculated this month

 The PTO account currently has a balance of $4344 (this includes the $1500

that needs to remain in the account to prevent the implementation of account

charges)

II. School Updates


a. Spirit Week

 The school will have a winter spirit week in December. The information will be

added as part of the monthly newsletter. Please look out for the December

newsletter for more information


b. Parent Teachers Conference

 Parent/Teachers Conference will be held on Nov 15 th between 1-7pm

 Parents will receive notification to sign up on TeacherReacher

 Try and sign up as soon as possible to select the times most convenient for

you


c. Winterfest

 OWN2 Winterfest will be held this year on December 14 th

 More information will be sent out to parents shortly

 Only a limited number of parents will be allowed in the building so be sure to

respond as soon as the information is sent out


d. After-school Performance

 All students in the 21 st Century after-school program will be participating in a

dance performance

 A google form was emailed to parents requesting permission for the students

to perform and for adults who plan on attending to sign up

 Contact Ms. Wallace and Ms. Buonomo if you did not receive the Google

Form and your child is part of 21 st Century


e. Parent Concerns

 Parents have expressed that their children’s school supplies have gone

missing from their classrooms. Most incidences are believed to have taken

place in the afterschool programs. Parents who have issues with missing

supplies should speak with their class teachers. PTO will inform afterschool

administration regarding protecting student supplies

 Snack Table- Parents inquired previously regarding setting up the PTO snack

table during the school lunch hours. As per the school, snacks are unable to

be sold during school hours because it would violate the school’s Heath &

Wellness policy


III. Reminders

a. Traffic and Congestion – Please remember to be courteous when picking up and

dropping off your child. Do not double and triple park in front of the school building as

this creates an unsafe environment for our students and families

b. School Calendar – Remember to continue checking the school website regularly for

any changes to the school calendar related to Half Days or Holidays

c. Important Dates in November:

 Dec 13 th – Half Day/Noon dismissal

 Dec 14 th – Winterfest

 Dec 14 th – 21 st Century After-school presentation


 Dec 25-29 th – School Closed

Next meeting is Thursday, December 21 st at 6:30PM
