Parent Meeting Minutes 10/13/2022

OWNCS2 PTO General Meeting Minutes - October

Date, Time, and Location: Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 6:30PM Via Zoom

Meeting called to order by: President- Kathy Vergara at 6:35PM

Note Taker(s): Secretary- Esther Wallace

Timekeeper: President- Kathy Vergara

Attendees: President- Kathy Vergara, Vice President-, Vice President- Yaritza Cano,

Secretary- Esther Wallace, Communications Officer- Clorinda Rivera; Teacher Representatives:

Ms. Valencia. There were 30 attendees; a quorum was reached.


ORDERS OF BUSINESS

I. School Updates

a. October PTO Events

 October is Breast Cancer awareness month- Please dress your child in pink

on October 26 th . Send pictures of your family and/or child in pink to be

featured on the class dojo and/or PTO Instagram

 PTO will be doing a treat event for the children of OWN2 giving out candies

and treats. Tentative dates will be October 31 st or Nov 1 st

 OWN2 will have a spirit week beginning with Character Day on 10/31. Please

contact Ms. Wallace or Ms. Valencia with any questions regarding spirit week


b. Safety Concerns

 PTO met with Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Wilkins regarding some of the parent’s

safety concerns:

i. OWN2 staff will continue to follow up with the excessive truck parking

outside of the school

ii. OWN2 administration is working on a way to get a source of light at

the rear school door entrance as well as outdoor awnings for

inclement weather

iii. PTO has offered the use of its outdoor tents which could be used in

the interim


c. T-Shirt Sales

 PTO has been selling shirts with OWN2 logo

 Youth sizes and limited adult sizes are still available at this time

 All pre-ordered shirts have been given to the children’s teacher for distribution

 T-shirts can also be purchased at the PTO’s Wednesday snack table

 PTO is also looking into obtaining other products for sale (i.e. hoodies, hats,

etc). Parents can email the PTO additional product ideas as well as preferred

price points

d. Volunteers

 Parents are welcomed to volunteer for the PTO activities and events

 The events provided by the PTO is dependent on the participation of parents


 Currently there are several parents who have been volunteering at the

Wednesday snack table. Please email the PTO your days of availability if

interested in also volunteering for either the 3pm dismissal or 5:30 dismissal

snack table.


e. Class Parent Representatives

 Classroom teachers have been asked to identify parents in their class who

could serve as class representatives

 Those identified parents should email the PTO if interested in accepting the

role of class representative

 Some responsibilities may include disseminating information to class parents,

collecting information/comments from parents, gauging the interest of the

class parents/students, etc.


f. End of Year Incentives

 PTO has discussed with Mr. Ferguson the idea of providing an

incentive/”thank you” to parents and students at the end of the school year for

their efforts in supporting the school

 PTO has created a list of minimum requirements for parent participation

throughout the school year in order to qualify for the incentive. Requirements

will include things like student attendance %, parent/teacher conference

attendance, volunteering for events, etc.

 The exact incentive is still to be determined, but will be a collaboration

between the school and the PTO

 More information will be distributed once the details have been finalized

g. After School

 Some parents feel the 5:45pm end time for the afterschool program is too late

 However, due to the grant used to fund the after-school program the school is

unable to adjust the start and end time

 If there are questions regarding scheduled early pickups please contact Ms.

Wallace or Ms. Buonomo

 If there are questions regarding wait list spots please contact Ms. Wallace or

Ms. Buonomo

h. Soccer Team

 The school is working on putting together a soccer team for OWN2

 More information will be distributed once the details are worked out

 The tentative plan would be for soccer practice to be held during day so that it

would not interfere with those kids in the after-school program


II. Reminders

a. Wednesday October 19 th is a half day

b. Picture Day- will be held on Nov 3 rd , information and order forms will be sent out by

the school shortly


c. Traffic and Congestion – Please remember to be courteous when picking up and

dropping off your child. Do not double and triple park in front of the school building as

this creates an unsafe environment for our students and families

d. School Calendar – Remember to continue checking the school website regularly for

any changes to the school calendar related to Half Days or Holidays
