OWNCS2 PTO General Meeting Minutes – January
Date, Time, and Location: Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 6:30PM Via Zoom
Meeting called to order by: PTO President- Kathy Vergara at 6:35PM

Attendees: President- Kathy Vergara, VP- Xaulanda Lewis, Co-communications Officers- Dakina Darrien-Battle & Clorinda Rivera, Secretary- Esther Wallace, Treasurer- Shaenne Toussaint-Islam; There were 30 attendees; a quorum was reached
ORDERS OF BUSINESS
I. Events/Updates
a. Financial Update
· Last month PTO made $0 in donations and sales
· Unable to set up the Wednesday snack table last month due to weather and lack of volunteers
b. December Events Recap
· Paint and Sip: the event was rescheduled to Jan due to lack of ticket sales, however, the event still did not meet the minimum tickets sale requirement and has been canceled
c. Online Snack Table
· The Wednesday snack table has been moved to an online store
· Parents can purchase snacks online up to Thursday at 3pm and the packaged snacks will be delivered to the child’s classroom toward the end of the school day
· Any parents who would like to volunteer helping package the items can email the PTO
d. Heart Wall
· As part of heart health awareness month, PTO will set up a heart wall in the school
· Forms have been sent home with students
· Your child or family member’s name can be put on our wall. A $5 donation will include your child’s picture on the wall
· Wear Red Day will be on Feb 12th. We ask that all students and staff wear red
e. Pi Day/Read-a-thon
· PTO will hold its annual Pi Day in collaboration with the read-a-thon
· Proceeds will be split between the PTO, 5th grade graduation, teacher’s week and other events
f. Lobby Library
· The take one, leave one library bookshelf is almost ready to become operational
· There have already been some books donated. Families can drop off more books
· The bookshelf will be located in the school lobby and books will be organized by grade level
g. Small Business Event
· PTO is planning on arranging a small business pop up event at the school for OWN2 parents/families that want to showcase their business
· Tables will be available at a fee and business will be able to sell their products to interested families.
· A google form will be sent out to gauge the number of parents that may be interested in participating. Please fill out the form as soon as you receive it
· More details will be shared in the upcoming months
II. School Updates
a. Ms. Imam- IB Program
· International Baccalaureate Program
· This is not a new curriculum, it is a framework
· Focuses on how to learn
· This program is concept based instead of topic based
· Places emphasis on the learner profile attribute
· Ms. Imam is heading the OWN2 IB Program
· Feel free to reach out to Ms. Imam if you have any questions regarding the program
b. Picture Re-Take Day
· January 31st is the picture retake day for the school
· Information on how to sign up was already sent out. Please fill out form if you want your child to have pictures taken on Jan 31st
· Contact Ms. Valencia with any questions
III. Reminders
a. Traffic and Congestion – Please remember to be courteous when picking up and dropping off your child. Do not double and triple park in front of the school building as this creates an unsafe environment for our students and families
b. School Calendar – Remember to continue checking the school website regularly for any changes to the school calendar related to Half Days or Holidays
c. Important Dates:
· Jan 31st – Picture retake day
· Feb 11th- half day/noon dismissal
· Feb 19th- 23rd- School closed for Mid Winter break
